Refrigerator Maintenance and Energy Saving Tips
Home
appliances contribute to a large part of your energy expenses each month. Here
are some great refrigerator maintenance tips you can use to save energy.
- Install the refrigerator away from direct sunlight and heat-producing appliances. Leave ample room behind refrigerators with rear condensers to allow maximum air flow.
- Keeping the refrigerator and freezer at least ¾ full will improve efficiency and avoid wasting energy cooling a large empty space
- Clean the condenser coils once or twice a year to remove build up of dirt, dust and pet hair which will make the unit work harder to keep cool.
- Clean the door seals with a mild detergent to prevent them from drying out and cracking or splitting. Replace if cold air is leaking out due to a poor seal.
- Avoid opening the refrigerator more often than necessary and do not leave it open too long
